ABAP System Logs and Traces

1. During the Starting the SAP System,That time event are written to Log files.These Log files are very important from the point of view of identify and solve the problems.Log of the SAP start process are stored in the File System.

2. Log files stored in particular Directory(File System) in  Windows.

   

   Log File Path <DRIVE>:\usr\sap\<SID>\DVEBMGXX\<sys-nr>\Work

    dev_w0 file contains logs about the current work process.

    dev_dispatcher file contains logs about dispatcher's activity.

    stderr file contains logs SAP start process.

3. Log files stored in particular Directory (File System) in Unix/Linux.

   Log file path :/usr/sap/<SID>/DVEBMGS<SYS-no>/Work.

    dev_w0  file contains information about latest abap work process.But it can happen at the time         that they other work process get fail or create the error.

4. About the Traces

  

  During the start process, the STDERR<no> log files are created by SAP services.The starting process write to the individual files,depending on the sequence in which they are listed in the START profile.Those log files depends on the individual system setup.Example,,,,

     STDERR1 information about the start process of database system.

     STDERR2 information about the start process of message server.

     STDERR3 information about the start process of dispatcher.
