How to create trace for SAPFTP/SAPFTPA or SAPHTTP/SAPHTTPA RFC?

Create trace for SAPFTP/SAPFTPA or SAPHTTP/SAPHTTPA.

1.    Before enabling data tracing, go to transaction SE38, execute program RSFTP001 (for RFC destination SAPFTP/SAPFTPA) RSHTTP40 (for RFC destination SAPHTTP/SAPHTTPA) while setting the "Delete Trace" (either "x" or "X") to delete the trace.
This is important in order to clear up older tracing information which might pollute the newly generated trace file, making it more difficult for the Support Engineer to pinpoint the desired information in the trace log.

2.    Go to transaction SM59 and open RFC destination SAPFTP/SAPFTPA or SAPHTTP/SAPHTTPA.

3.    Check "Set RFC trace" in tab "Special options".

4.    Reproduce the issue.

5.    Run report RSFTP001 (for SAPFTP/SAPFTPA) or report RSHTTP40 (for SAPHTTP/SAPHTTPA).

6.    Check the report results and find the line "Current working directory (location of dev_ftp)". Different directories may be shown, dependending on whether it's a front-end or application server destination.

Examples:
RFC destinations SAPFTP/SAPHTTP, with "Start on Front-End WorkStation" activation type: C:\Users\*****\Documents\SAP\SAP GUI"
RFC destinations SAPFTPA/SAPHTTPA, with "Start on Application Server" activation type: E:\usr\sap\...\work (DIR_HOME) directory in transaction AL11

 7.    Open the directory referred to above in step 6 according to your RFC Destination and find dev_ftp, dev_rfc or RFC** files (for saphttp, please find dev_http).

 8.    Please send the mentioned trace files to SAP Support by attaching them to the case they're related to.

.9.    After sending the trace files to SAP Support, please turn off the flag "Set RFC trace" in transaction SM59.
This is important because leaving tracing enabled indefinitely will cause the trace log size to continue increasing, consuming storage space unnecessarily.

How to Configuration of e-mail using SMTP (outbound) in SAP

How to Configuration of e-mail using SMTP (outbound)

1. Create SMTP service
  1. Goto transaction SMICM.
  2. From the menu choose 'Goto' -> 'Services'.
  3. In this screen choose the menu 'Service' -> 'Create'. In the popup fill the required data, the protocol should be SMTP.
  4. After pushing 'Create Service' button you will get a warning message

"WARNING: Your changes will be lost when you restart the ICM"

To have the service also after restarting the ICM, the parameter icm/server_port_* should be set with the correct value into the instance profile.

2. Create the SMTP node
  1. Go to transaction SCOT.
  2. In the tree on the left go to 'Settings'-'Outbound Messages'-'SMTP Nodes'. Here choose from the icon menu 'Create Node Using Wizard'.
The name of the node shoud be set here and the mailserver host and port, the address area, specify          the output formats etc.
Important is that the address area is specified because according the address area will be the node            selected and used.

3.Set Default domain

Go to transaction SCOT > Settings Menu > Default Domain

The domain of this SAP system client is defined here, for example, crm-prod.company.com. It is used for the following purposes:

  1. the SMTP Plug-In logs on to the mail server with the domain as ID
  2. the message ID of outgoing mails is created with this domain
  3. if an SAP user who has not entered an Internet mail address in their user master record sends an e-mail, a sender address is generated from the SAP user name and this domain, for example SMITHJ@crm-prod.company.com.
  4. It is not possible to have multiple default domains in the SAP system

How to Handle HANA Alert 28: 'Most recent savepoint operation'

Tags

Handle HANA Alert 28: 'Most recent savepoint operation'

Symptom:

  • In SAP HANA alert 'Most recent savepoint operation' (Alert ID = 28) is raised.
  • In HANA Studio this corresponds to the alert description:
  • "The last savepoint operation on host **** (host):***** (port) was executed * minutes ago. This may indicate a problem with savepoint processing and impact the recoverability of your database."

Resolution:

Procedure

  1. Check the configuration of parameter savepoint_interval_s in file global.ini - persistence.
  2. Check the configuration of alert thresholds.
  3. Check the safepoint statistics.
  4. Analyze for performance issues in savepoint writing according to KBA 1977220.

Path:

  1. SAP HANA Studio - SAP HANA Administration Console - Configuration.
  2. SAP HANA Studio - SAP HANA Administration Console - Alerts - Configure Check Settings - Configure Check Thresholds.
  3. SAP Solution Manager - Configuration.
  4. SAP HANA Studio - SAP HANA Administration Console - SQL Console.
How to HANDLE ALERT ‘CHECK LAST SAVEPOINT TIME'

RESOLUTION:

1. If savepoint interval has been configured to a custom value, then confirm the setting with your architect.

Check what action is required for this alert and if alert thresholds shall be adhusted.
2. For the alert triggered due to improper threshold value setting, it could be resolved by reset it to default
or a higher threshold value.

x

3. If the savepoint writing and alerting are configured correctly, then check statistics of savepoint writing.

The information about the last save point time is stored in the system view _SAVEPOINT_STATISTICS.

You can check for the last save point time by execution the following SQL command in HANA Studio:

Select * from SYS.M_SAVEPOINT_STATISTICS

The result is like:

1. Check if the delay of savepoint writing occurs regularly or if its occurrance is just temporary,
sporadic or continual.

2. Check if the delay is due to a difference between REQUESTED_FREQUENCY and
LAST_FREQUENCY or if its due to long LAST_DURATION

Try to trigger a savepoint manually by executing the SQL statement from the SQL Console:

ALTER SYSTEM SAVEPOINT

Repeat the check on savepoint statistics and check if the savepoint has been completed as expected:

select * from SYS.M_SAVEPOINT_STATISTICS

Further actions:

1. If the actual frequency of savepoint writing repeatedly deviates a lot from configured frequency,
then create a ticket to SAP Support with component HAN-DB.

2. If delay is due to long duration of savepoint writing, then proceed the analysis steps

How to handle HANA Alert 129: Check trusted certificate expiration date

When checking the Alerts in HANA Cockpit or HANA Studio , there is an alert called "X trusted certificate will expire soon or has already expired."

Or

you can find the ID 129 in the SQL result of : SELECT * FROM _SYS_STATISTICS.STATISTICS_CURRENT_ALERTS

Solution:

You can use the following SQL statements to determine if any certificates will expire soon or have already expired

select certificate_id , subject_common_name, issuer_common_name , valid_from , valid_until , comment , subject_distinguished_name , issuer_distinguished_name , basic_constraints , subject_alt_name from certificates;

select pse_name , certificate_id , subject_name , issuer_name , valid_from , valid_until , certificate_usage from pse_certificates;

Check the date in the column valid_until, and ask your CA to sign this certificate again.

Port ephemeral max count

Checks for free local ports by referring to following kernel parameters: net.ipv4.ip_local_p ort_range and net.ipv4.ip_local_r eserved_ports. The alert is raised if the number of free local ports is below the configured minimum.

Increase the local port range by setting profile parameters as described in SAP Note 401162, or free ports which do not have to be reserved. The number of free local ports and ports which should be reserved for HANA services can be found in the system view M_HOST_INFORMATION, keys: net_port_ephemeral_ max_count and net_port_ranges.  See also Linux kernel parameters in the SAP HANA System Administration Guide.

119

Required local SAP HANA port ranges

Checks for local ports which are required but which have not been reserved (see Alert 118). If not reserved there is a risk that these ports could be automatically assigned to other applications. The alert is raised if any ports in the local ports range are not reserved.

Reserve ports by setting profile parameters as described in SAP Note 401162. Details of unreserved ports can be retrieved from the system view M_HOST_INFORMATION key: net_port_unreserved _ranges.  See also Linux kernel parameters in the SAP HANA System Administration Guide.
