How do you check if SAP system is down?
List of SAP Basis Technical Troubleshooting and Performing initial analysis.
Possibility to check below points.
- Software Changes
- Hardware installation
- Scripts
- SAP/OS profile parameters,
- Database structure
System (Hardware) is down:
- Check Operating System console messages .
- Reboot and backup important system log files.
- Check hardware components status.
- Check Hardware main log files.
- System Start up/shut down log files.
Startup and shutdown problems (SAP Application servers):
- Check hosts processes or services at operating system level.
- Check connection with database.
- Check whether file systems are full like Log directory.
- Check for network problems in the server network.
- Try to Manually start up or shut down database and then the application server.
Operating system problems:
- Check operating system log and event viewers.
- Check disks and file systems.
- Check path names.
- Check security.
Database problems:
- Check Manually Starting and stopping database.
- Refer to startup problems.
- Check database specific error log file.
- Database storage status
- Check database error numbers.
- Check database alerts.
SAP application operational problems:
- Check whether all users are affected.
- Check whether there is no work at all, or whether work is just limited.
- Check whether application servers are available (SM51).
- Check trace files on work directory (/usr/sap/<SID>/<instance>/work).
- Check SAP systems alerts.
- Analyze database problems.
