You can execute the below command to check the current release of your SUSE Operating System.

# cat /etc/SuSE-release
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 (x86_64)
VERSION = 12
PATCHLEVEL = 1

or

# cat /etc/issue

Welcome to SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 12 (i586) -kernel \r (\l)
